Competition from Germany:
"It was in 1966 that a competition for the best
posters of the year first took place in what was then
the GDR (East Germany); the posters were awarded prizes
and were subsequently presented in an exhibition.
In 1980, this com- petition was re-named 'Die 100
besten Plakate des Jahres'(100 Best Posters of the
Year). Thanks to the Graphic Designers Association
(Verband der Grafik-Designer e.V.), the competition
survived in the reunited Germany. Since 1990, an increasing
number of posters from the whole of Germany have been
